Isaac & Sarah

walk to work in High Wycombe for a daily wage of 9d. Of Sarah Ann there is no mention. It was also during 1871 that the family grew even larger, this time due to the activities of Angelina who, despite her name, was no little angel because, although only 15 and no husband in sight,
(At that time girls could legally marry at age 12) she gave birth to a daughter who was baptised on the 1st June and named Sarah Ann. Just over a year later she produced another daughter who, on 24th May 1872 was baptised Sarah Ann Blanch. Sadly, the first of these two children died in 1888.

On 20th December 1879 Isaac’s daughter Sarah Ann made a brief re-appearance on the scene when she returned to Wycombe to give birth to an illegitimate daughter (father unknown) called Florence Sarah Georgina Lord. Florence was born at 12 Bridge Street and the birth was registered by the householder Hannah Sears. The child was left with Isaac and Sarah in Stokenchurch and Sarah Ann returned to London.

On 27th February 1881, Angelina, now calling herself Annie, went to London where she married Owen Sears in Marylebone. Owen had previously been lodging in Stokenchurch with Isaac’s neighbours the Poole family. The census taken in May of that year however shows Angelina and her daughter Sarah Ann Blanch, now just called Blanch, living back home with Isaac and Sarah but without husband Owen. It is possible that she was just visiting her family and that her visit coincided with the census and that she and Owen were already working in London. We know that Angelina’s elder sister Sarah Ann was living in London at the time (without daughter Florence) and that she was a witness to the marriage.
